Signe M. Anderson, 87, of Trout Creek, passed away peacefully at Bayside Village in L'Anse on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, where she had been cared for like family since April.

She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Trout Creek, the daughter of Edward and Reeta (Leinonen) Anderson. She moved to Detroit following graduation from Trout Creek High School and worked for Excello Corp.

While in Detroit, she met Harold Anderson, and they were married on Sept. 28, 1946. They moved back to her family home in Trout Creek in May 1948, where she was engaged in farming until 1957, at which time she began working at the co-op store, becoming manager in 1970. She later worked at the Bond Falls welcome center and the SELL program.

Signe enjoyed dancing with Harold, bowling, working with crafts and tending to her flowers. She made the best pickled beets as judged by her family.

Signe is survived by her daughters, Jean (Bill) Besonen of Trout Creek, and Yvonne (Albert) Gipson, of Manchester, Mich.; grandsons, Jeremy (Kelly) Chambers, of Riverview, and their three children, and Adam (Jennifer) Floied, of Manchester, Texas, and their three children; granddaughter, Jennifer Stavros, of Saline, and her three children; stepgrandson Mike Gipson, of Manchester, Mich., and this three children; brother, Arthur Leinonen, of Westland; several nieces and a nephew; and a very special friend and neighbor, Roy Anderson.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father; husband; brother, William Leinonen; sister, Irene Johnson; Tymi Make, Helen Anderson and an infant son. Signe was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek, where she had been a choir director for several years.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Trout Creek, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, with the Rev. Timothy Nyikako, pastor, officiating.
