Sylvester "Bud" Hoffman 87 of Ontonagon died Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born January 20, 1920 in Athens, WI to Emil & Agnes Hoffman. Bud served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Trinidad and the Philippines. On September 1, 1944 he married Mabel Metsala in Ontonagon.
For many years, Bud was employed by Menigoz Construction as a carpenter. He also owned and operated a large dairy farm. Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and playing cards.
Bud is survived by sons Gary Hoffman of Ontonagon and Larry Niederkorn of Siletz, OR, daughter Gail Ollila of Ontonagon, granddaughter Amanda Ollila, grandsons Steve (Kristie) and Jon (Patty) Ollila, great-grandchildren Shane, Stephanie, Shelby, Abby and Anna, sisters Delores Schinke of Slinger, WI and Elenor Moug of Elmhurst, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel in 1981, sons John and Donald, son-in-law James Ollila, brothers Emil, Jr., and George, sisters Agnes Ptak, Harritte Malson and Mae Quimette. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5th at 1 p.m. from the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Friends may call at the Cane Funeral Home 2 hours prior to the start of the service. Spring burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
