Sylvia Lydia Swanberg, age 96, of Ontonagon, passed away on November 20, 2009 at Ontonagon Long Term Care.
She was born on November 20, 1913 in Hubbell to John and Wilhemina Arkelin, later growing up on the family farm in Rockland. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1933.
Sylvia was married to Carl Swanberg in 1939. She worked for Kresge's Dime Store in Ironwood and for Hoefferle's IGA Grocery Store in Ontonagon. Sylvia was a long standing member of the Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Natalie Rosemurgy of Ontonagon and Nancy Swanberg of Clinton, MS; her sister Jennie Hill of Houghton; her brother Roy Arkelin of Whitehouse, TX; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; her sisters Lillian Harnish and Edna Eichinger; and her brothers Eino and Rudy Arkelin.
A Memorial Service for Sylvia will be held Saturday, June 12th, 11 a.m. at the Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon with Reverend Jeannie Manning officiating. Freinds may call at the church Saturday 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
Memorials in Sylvia's name may be directed to the Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon or the Ontonagon Cancer Society, one of her favorite charities.
