Thomas B. O'Connell, 59, of Rockland, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 in Baraga.

He was born on February 16, 1951 to parents Robert and Ann (Miilu) O'Connell. Thomas attended Ontonagon Area High School. On July 14, 1973, he was united in marriage Laurie Pantti. Thomas was a partner with his son, Nick, in their logging business, O'Connell Logging.

Thomas was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and picking copper. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and trusted friend who loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Tanya.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Chris (Brad) Holmstrom, Nick, and Tony (finaceAC. Angie); brothers, Bob (DeeDee), Pat (Bonnie), Jim (Roberta) and Bill (Julie); sisters, Colleen (Dave) Saari, Sue, and Cath (Brien) Ricci; beloved grandchildren, Gaven and Caden O'Connell, Travis Holmstrom, and one on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Thomas will take place Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rockland at 1 p.m. Friends may call two hours prior to service. Spring interment will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
