Obituary

Viola Miriam Reichardt, 88, of Ontonagon passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility on May 13.

Viola was born on April 30, 1922 in Tapiola to Abram and Wilhelmina (Moilanen) Torro. She attended the Tapiola School and married Reino "Bob" Tarvas on May 31, 1941. They moved to Ontonagon with their three children in 1955. Reino preceded her in death in 1969. Viola then married Harold Reichardt on April 29, 1972. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was employed at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital for several years. Viola was an active member of Siloa Lutheran Church and the Ontonagon Historical Society and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She had a passion for fishing, loved camping, gardening and Scrabble. Viola was a loyal fan, faithfully cheering for the Ontonagon and White Pine basketball teams.

Viola is survived by her children Lawrence (Lorraine) Tarvas of White Pine, Kathy Sanford of Lakeville MN, and Susan (Terry) Baillargeon of Barryton MI, and step children Carolyn Richmond of Appleton WI, Harold (Diane) Reichardt of Ishpeming MI, and Nancy (Stanley) Niemi, Susan (Donald) Helsel and Paul (Marion) Reichardt all of Ontonagon. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Viola is also survived by her dear sister Irene (Leonard) Pelto of Houghton as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Viola in death were her parents, brothers John, Charles, Armas, Donald, Theodore, Hugo, Urho and Eino Torro, and sisters Anna Plough, Martha Pesola, and Wilma Heikkinen; and a stepson, Peter Reichardt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 17 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home, and also from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service officiated by Pastor John Voss. Burial will follow at the Elo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Siloa Lutheran Church, 218 E. River St., Ontonagon, the Ontonagon County Cancer Association, P. O. Box 282, Ontonagon, MI 49953 or your local Alzheimer's Association.
