Obituary

William (Wink) Franklin Pollard of Ontonagon, Michigan passed away on October 15, 2026 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with family by his side.

Wink was born on June 24, 1936 to Charles and Minnie (Perryman) Pollard in Greenland, Michigan, where he also attended school. He married Marjorie Lynn Garlow in Ontonagon Michigan on August 3, 1957. He worked in the woods with his brothers, driving a logging truck, until he was hired at the Village of Ontonagon where he continued to work for 40+ years until his retirement.

Wink, who was known to his family in his later years almost exclusively as "Gramps", loved and cared deeply for his family, especially his wife. He always made sure to give her a kiss before he left for work or she set out to shop, and cherished her throughout their 67 years of marriage.

Wink enjoyed garage parties with his friends and family where they played cribbage, ping pong, and indulged in Old Milwaukee. After his retirement, he kept busy and without fail could be found tinkering in the garage or riding his four-wheeler on his property. One of his favorite things aside from tinkering was playing tricks - a fake spider placed ever so carefully for shock value, or newspaper bundled in the tips of your shoes that he'd patiently wait for you to discover - always met with a laugh he couldn't hold in and would last until he lost his breath. Wink was a loyal Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions fan, even though it wasn't always easy. He also loved watching his grandkids play sports, especially hockey. More than that though, he loved visits from his large family, the house filled with kids, grandkids and, more recently, great grandkids. He kept the house warm and toasty, the furnace always burning full blast - perfect for napping on the couch. He was quick to offer a sweet treat, a pop, or a cup of coffee to his visitors and loved complaining about the latest terrible movie he watched. Wink left an imprint on all of our hearts. He will be forever missed, and always remembered, as a loving husband, father, uncle, and Gramps.

Wink is survived by his children, Michael (Nancy), Terry (Jeanne), Randy (Donna) , Brett, Christy (Bob) Kirkley, Tara (Mike)York; his brother, Frank Pollard; his grandchildren, Andrea (Drew) Coffey, Derrick Pollard, Kory (Ceirra Schuette) Pollard, Katelyn (Chris) Witkowiak, Kendra Pollard (Don Krueger), Kyle (Lauren) Pollard, Brilynn (Ona) Vasquez-Pollard, Bradee (Ryne) Southerland, Dawson Pollard, Amelia Pollard, Madalynn Pollard, Morgan (Joe) Guy, Maisey (Adam Dehnert) Pollard, Drew Pollard, Lillian Pollard, Dallas (Andrea) Aho, Bailee (John) Wagner, Savannah Pakosta and Ava Pakosta; his bonus Grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Pender, Allyssa (Jesse) DeHaan and Dylan (Kelli) Kirkley; his great grandchildren, Gavin and Weston Coffey, Hunter, Sophia, Jenavieve, DJ, Michael and Matthew Pollard, Veyah and Theodore Witkowiak, Duncan and Darla Pollard, Cecelia and Crue Guy, Maison and Boden Dehnert, Brenton & Rynlee Southerland, Adaline Aho, and Ainslee Wagner; and his bonus great grandchildren, James, Lillian and Finley Pender, Carson and Mila DeHaan and Max.
