"Randy" Schober
December 24, 1954 – May 20, 2014
William Randall "Randy" Schober, 59 of Ontonagon, died at his home on May 20, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to the late Bill and Donna (Hoefferle) Schober in Ontonagon on December 24, 1954.
He attended Ontonagon Area High School, graduating with the Class of 1973. He started working that summer with the International Paper Company for a year and a half before taking a military leave to enter the US Navy. After serving five years, he returned to his hometown and continued to work for the paper mill for 30 years until its closing in 2010. He also owned and operated local sporting goods store, Wilderness Supply, from 1988-1999. Later, in 2010 when the local ambulance service closed, he assisted with the startup of a temporary ambulance service, later to become SONCO Ambulance, as a First Responder. In 2011 he attended Gogebic Community College, earning a degree in Computer Aided Drafting, a longtime dream from high school. Randy was married to Angi Beals on May 30, 1994.
Randy is survived by his wife, Angi; father, Bill; children Amanda Garland, Rebecca, Ryan and Josh Schober; grandchildren Landen and Camden; brother David; and sisters Susan Penegor, Heidi Raisanen and Lisa Lindberg.
He was preceded in death by his mother Donna and brother Jerome Schober.
A Celebration of Life for Randy will be held Saturday, May 24th at the Ontonagon VFW Hall From Noon to 3 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at noon at the Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Ontonagon County Cancer Association.
