Obituary

Wilma Manning 87 went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon.

She was born in Ironwood, MI on November 29, 1919, the daughter of William & Rita "Lizzie" Niemi. In 1937 she married Edwin Arthur Manning. The family moved to Mass City in the Simar-Wasas area in 1956 and ran a small dairy farm until 1967. She then worked as a waitress and cook at Wager's Restaurant until the early 1980's.

Wilma enjoyed worshipping at Wainola Lutheran Church and was involved in the local history club as well as the Mass City Seniors Citizens group. She loved playing cards and Scrabble with her many friends. Wilma was also well known for making the best pasties for the church bake sales. She was a faithful Christian who loved her God and the people around her.

She is survived by her 3 children, Ralph of Mass City, Marion (George) Carpenter of Park Hill, OK, and Chuck (Jennie) of Ontonagon, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Wilma was preceded her in death by her husband Edwin in 1989.

Visitation will be held at the Cane Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Friday, January 26th in the Wainola Lutheran Church in Wainola at 1 p.m. Pastor John West officiating. Friends may also call at the Church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Spring burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
