Arlene Olson Obituary

Arlene Olson, 85 of White Pine, passed away on Monday, Nov 23, 2020 in Ontonagon Michigan.

Arlene was born to Stanley and Frances Oman on Feb 4, 1935 in Ironwood Mi. She lived at Little Girls Point and loved all family activities (swimming, bonfires, fishing and skipping rocks) on Lake Superior. She graduated from Luther Wright High School in 1953.

Arlene and Donald Olson were married on June 12 1954 and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years building a family together. Arlene and Donald were members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Trout Creek and Salem Lutheran Church of Ironwood Michigan.

Donald and Arlene moved to Trout Creek in 1957 to start a new life, Donald was a teacher at the Trout Creek School and Arlene was participated in School Organizations to support the community. Arlene was an accomplished Cook, Knitter, Crafter and Painter. She loved to paint Christmas Decorations and give to the Olson family as gifts at Christmas. Her specialty was filling Christmas Bags (many individual wrapped gifts) for each grandchild and was the most special gift each received. This is a tradition that will be carried on for many years in the Olson family. Arlene found her true calling in local government. She was elected to positions (clerk and treasurer) in Interior, Bergland and Carp Lake townships. She was instrumental in local policy and development of many projects to improve each township. Arlene was a great Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed each Sunday watching the Pack. Go Pack Go!!!

Arlene loved to spend summers with her grandchildren who came to the UP to spend time. She spent many hours with her grandchildren swimming, fishing, rock collecting and then rock painting on Lake Gogebic and Lake Superior.

Arlene is survived by her husband Donald Olson and son Dennis (Sue), She had 4 grandchildren Casey (Steve Kurchak) of Linwood MI, Callie Johnson of Bay City MI, Rachel (Rob Sherman) of Birch Run MI and Andrew (Trisha Olson) of Cass City MI. Proudly she had 8 great grandchildren (Makenna and Makayla Olson), (Landen and Laurel Johnson, (Henry, James and Samuel Sherman) and (Frances Olson). Arlene is also survived by her brother, Eric Oman and her sisters Sally Nelson and Diana Oman.

Arlene was preceded in death by here parents and her brother, Ray and sister, Jean.

A  graveside service and burial will take place on July 17, 2021 at 10:00am local time at the Ironwood Cemetery in Ironwood, MI.

The Olson family expresses love and thanks to the Aspirus LTC facility in Ontonagon for the love and care that each provided to Arlene during her stay. They were truly a wonderful family in this difficult time of the Covid19 Pandemic.
