Barbara Anderson Obituary

Barbara Ann Anderson of White Pine, 89 years old, passed away peacefully on April 2nd, 2022. She was born to Arthur and Ruth (Chagnon) McNeil in Laurium on May 7, 1932.She grew up on a farm in Baraga that her grandfather, who migrated from England, had homesteaded. Her father was a rural /rte. mail carrier, her mother a home maker.

After graduation in 1950 from Baraga High School, she worked in the office at the school from 1950 - 1954. At a graduation party she met Kenny Anderson of Aura who she married in 1954, after Ken's enlistment was up in 1953. They moved to White Pine from Baraga, where Ken worked as a mechanic in the surface shop at the White Pine Copper Range Mine Co. Barbara worked at White Pine Copper Mine as a clerk in the accounting department from 1970 - 1984.

Ken and Barb were members of Faith Lutheran, and later White Pine Methodist Community Church. Barb enjoyed playing piano and singing, playing on a pump organ at the Baraga Methodist Church in her early years. She and a school chum sang on the radio once. She also filled in once on the bass drum, carrying it from Hancock to Houghton in a parade.

Her interests were doing puzzle books and watching Gunsmoke, which was also her father's favorite program. She enjoyed reading and ceramics when she was able to.

Barbara is survived by 3 children; Jim, Steve and Penny; grandchildren; Rachel, Jeremy (Melinda) Marlatt, Nathan (Molly MacGregor) Anderson; great-grandchildren; Raquel Randall, Gabriella, Ethan, Evelyn, Briggs and Baylor Anderson; great great-grandchildren; Ariana and Bryson Jones; step-great-grandchildren; Brook Marlatt and Chase MacGregor; sister-in-law Mary Ann Hanson (Dick); brother-in-law Peter Suomela (Jean); special niece Cheryl Strahl (Dick), and nephews Danny McNeil (Beth), Mike McNeil (Debby) other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband Ken Anderson; parents Arthur and Ruth McNeil; in-laws Walter and Wilma Soumela;  brother George McNeil; and sisters-in-law Ruth and Vi McNeil; Two daughters-in-law Darlene and Jennie Anderson. Also, her parakeet, 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Service with family will be held at a later date. The burial with Ken will be in Baraga Cemetery at a later date as well.
