Bobby Hoover Obituary

Bobby Dick Hoover (84) of Mass City went to dance across heaven on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 into the arms of his beloved Janice who had passed on before him on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020. He passed on at the Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital from complications of COVID and a broken heart. Bobby and his twin sister Betty were born on July 12th, 1936 in Potlatch, Idaho to the late Wesley and Helen (Morrow) Hoover. He would always tease Betty that he kicked her out.

He was known for his smile, laugh, twinkle in his eye, kindness and for being an overall great guy. Anyone he met became a friend. He was the kind of guy who would give you his last dime if he knew you needed it more.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France and the United States. After his discharge he was a milkman for a number of years in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1971 they moved their family to the farm in Mass City on Fox Rd that is now fondly known as the “Hoover Farm”. Here they raised their seven children and made many, many fond memories. He was a trucker for most of his life, known by his CB handle “J. Edgar”. He enjoyed the open road and traveling many miles making lots memories with his children, grandchildren and his copilot Jan, his “Silver Fox”, when she retired.

Bobby was always up for a good time and he and Jan could be found on the dance floor wherever they went. They especially loved Thursday Nite Open Mic at the Ontonagon Eagles where he taught many how to dance. If music was playing and he wasn’t dancing his foot was a tapping. One of his proudest moments was when he became a member of the Fraternal Order of The Eagles Aerie 2239 in Ontonagon, Michigan and the American Legion Post 92 in Rockland, Michigan.

Bobby was known for his cookies and was proud to say he was on his 16th 50 pound bag of flour in 2 years. He enjoyed making his cookies for everyone and brought them to any event that needed some baked goods. But his most favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family and friends.

Bobby is survived by his children, R. Scott (Janice Ambrose) of Ontonagon and his children Scotty “Gus” & Jason; James (Cheryl) of Mass City, and their children Michelle & Lisa; John (Cindy) of Twin Lakes and their children, Julie, Steve, Jen & Eve; Mary Jo (Robert) Bodie of Mass City; Kurt (Isabel) of San Antonio, TX and their children Jennifer, Monica & Veronica “Missy”; Thomas (Jill Armstrong) of South Milwaukee, WI and his children TJ & Josh; Chad (Colleen) of South Milwaukee, WI and their children Alex & Casey; 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.

He is further survived by his twin sister, Betty Golding of Hudson, KY; sister Elsie Corey of Hancock, MI; and brother William (Mary Ann) of Racine, WI; sister in laws, brother in laws, many nieces and nephews and his many friends, both old and new. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at 2:00pm EST at the Hoover Farm [9021 Fox Rd Mass City (off Mud Creek Rd-do not follow GPS directions)], Reverend Michael Laakko officiating. Please bring a memory to share.

The family would like to thank the Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital Emergency Room Team, Dr. Cearlock, the nurses and anyone who helped in his last hours we are so very, very grateful for all you did. You are amazing heroes.

Be kind to one another, make memories every day, don’t miss a chance to tell the ones you love how special they are and that you love them, AND DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHIING.
