Carol Szaroletta Obituary

Carol Lynn Szaroletta of Marshfield, Wisconsin, passed away on July 23, 2020 at the age of 57.

Carol, the beloved daughter of Alfred and Yvonne (Aubrey) Szaroletta was born on April 10, 1963 and lived in Ontonagon until her father’s passing in late 2015. She attended Ontonagon Area Schools and enjoyed her career and camaraderie at the Copper Country Mental Health Center in Ontonagon. Carol was a devout Catholic. She never missed mass and could always be heard joyfully and enthusiastically singing along. She loved attending mass with Grandma. Carol was honored to be a part of several RICC delegations where she traveled to Lansing to meet with legislators and discuss the needs of the local community.

She loved the water, was an avid swimmer and represented the Upper Peninsula regularly in State of Michigan competitions. She was Ontonagon sports’ greatest fan, a diehard Packers’ fan and cheered on the Michigan Wolverines and the Boston Red Sox. She was the family Uno Champion. She was happiest when she was visiting with people. She loved local establishments, particularly Roxie’s and the Eagles where she always lit up the room.

Carol is survived by siblings Diane (Chaffee), James (Susan), Patrick (Laurel), Steven (Lu Ann) and Mark. She is survived by nieces and nephews Kelsey and Drew (James and Susan), Jordan, Brian and Abby (Patrick and Laurel) and Kendrick and Emily (Steven and Lu Ann) and was a great aunt to Makayla, Riley and Cayden (Kelsey and Maston) and Kinsley (Kendrick and Nicole).

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, brother Andrew, and brother-in-law Roger (Diane) Chaffee.

Visitation and sharing of fond memories will be Wednesday, July 29th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cane Funeral home in Ontonagon with Rosary at 7:00 PM.

We will celebrate the joy and special gifts Carol shared with all of us with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 30 at the Holy Family Church in Ontonagon. Reverend Michael J. Jacobus will officiate. Burial will follow at the Holy Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Szaroletta, Dan Loutzenhiser, Randy Dishaw, Mark and Nick Horn and John Statler.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Copper Country Mental Health and the Special Olympics.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the nursing staffs of oncology, the ICU and palliative care at the Marshfield Clinic. They were all so incredibly good and caring. We also thank all who recognized, loved, were touched by and supported our darling sister throughout her life. She is in the arms of our loving Lord and lives on in the humility that she gave us and in how she taught us all what’s really important in life.
