Daniel Thomas Behnke, age 58 of White Pine, Michigan passed away peacefully with his family and friends by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Danny was born on May 12, 1963, in Menominee, Michigan. He graduated from Ontonagon Area High school in 1981 where he had fond memories of playing Gladiator football and making lifelong friends. He later moved to Florida for approximately 12 years gaining and never losing his southern accent we all loved. He mostly worked his whole life as a carpenter, recently working for JSP Contracting in Ontonagon.
Dan enjoyed bringing his best friend “Bud” to Lake Superior for walks and beautiful sunset views on a regular basis. He also enjoyed cooking to perfection to the joy of many people who have been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of his food creations. To say he could cook meat was an understatement, he made it an art. Danny pretty much kept a low profile but whenever needed he would be there for anyone. Always willing to jump in and help. He especially went above and beyond for his loving parents and took care of them for years. Danny definitely earned his angel wings. He always had a smile and a “Hey, Ya All” for people he met out and about.
Dan is survived by his best friend “Bud”, his sister Sandy (John) Monville of Gardiner, Montana, brother Michael Behnke of Ontonagon, his niece Ashley Baker of Republic, Mi, his nephew Michael “Lil Mike” (Alecia) Behnke of Deltona, Florida as well as his great nieces Ivy and Paisley and great nephew Nash Thomas Behnke, as well as many lifelong loving friends and extended family members.
He was proceeded in death by his best friend Arnie and his mother and father.
The family of Danny would like to express many thanks for the showing of support and love they received including the staff at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital and Hospice. With a very special thanks to cousin JoEllen Howard who opened her heart and her home to give Danny the best last days she could. She gave him excellent care and supplied our family with the support system they needed at this sad time. Danny loved her very much and she returned that love big time over his last days and before.
At Danny’s request there will be no services. Donations can be made in his memory to OCAP in Ontonagon and the Ontonagon County Cancer Association.
Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
