Elsie Chascsa Obituary

Elsie Evelyn Elaine Chascsa, 89, of Ontonagon, passed away peacefully, at home, with her loving family at her side into the arms of the angels and eternal life on March 3, 2021. She was a life long resident of Ontonagon, the 5th of 12 children born to Olga and John Leiviska.

She married Andrew Thomas Chascsa in February of 1949, and the couple had 5 children. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She truly was the Heart of the Home. She was a talented seamstress and loved to knit. Being a great cook and baker, everyone wanted her recipes for banana cream pie, her famous date cake and caramels. She maintained her wit and humor to the very end keeping herself active with reading and crossword puzzles. She always looked forward to the weekly card games at the senior center and spending time with her friends, until her health would no longer allow it.

Elsie is survived by 4 children: Maxine(Harry)Runyan, Andrea(Tom) Rinne, Tim(Julie)Chascsa and Julie Welling, three sisters: Irene Lavin, Lucille Warner, Mildred Parks, and one brother, Robert Leiviska, 8 grandchildren; Craig, Eric, Kristy, Leah, Mathew, Vincent, Valerie and Grace; 9 great grand children: Kameryn, Caitlyn, Madison, Macy, Claire, Vada, Zachery, Ava and Leo, all of whom loved grandma's famous buttermilk pancakes. She loved all these little children who brought big smiles to her face every time she saw them.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Andrew T. Chascsa and their son John Andrew Chascsa, her parents Olga and John Leiviska, sisters Kathleen Wilson, Shirley Henderson and Grace Weinstock, brothers Richard, Roy, Ralph and Roger Leiviska.

There will be a celebration of her life with visitation from 2-4pm and service following on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Cane Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Trudgeon officiating.

Burial will be on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Holy Family Cemetery at 2pm.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the thoughtful and kind doctors and nurses and ER at Ontonagon Aspirus and all of the wonderful nurses and caregivers from Horizon Home Care.
