Estelle A. Belford, 91, of Bruce Crossing, MI entered the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ on March 26, 2022. She was born November 13, 1930 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the daughter of Alfred and Blanche (LeDoux) Fortier.
She grew up in Pawtucket and Valley Falls, RI and enjoyed sports. She was a Girl Scout and later a Civil Air Patrol Cadet Private. In her teens and twenties she played softball for many company teams and received an invitation to the Mid-West to try out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League but had to decline due to financial reasons.
She married Richard E. Belford on June 3, 1960 in Seekonk, MA and raised their family in Easthampton, MA. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and very involved in Boy and Girl Scouting, serving as a leader for her children. She remained a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in various positions in Easthampton, MA and in San Manuel, AZ and was honored in 2005 with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest national award bestowed on a local council volunteer.
Estelle enjoyed volunteering at church for Vacation Bible School and Adventure Camp and was happy to help out in any way she could. She enjoyed arts and crafts, playing cards, watching television, telling jokes, and socializing at the Senior Center and playing Bingo.
Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Raymond and Roland Fortier. She will be deeply missed by her children, Richard (Dawn) Belford of Enfield, CT; Sharon (Michael) Demers of Bruce Crossing, MI; Thomas (Theresa) Belford of San Manuel, AZ. She also leaves her granddaughter Cailin Belford of San Manuel, AZ, several nieces and nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Aspirus Ontonagon Long Term Care and Bayside Village in L'Anse for the love, care and compassion they gave Mom.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
