Garnet Ann Bailey passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11th, 2022 at the Ontonagon Aspirus Hospital with family by her side, she was 83. Garnet was born October 21st, 1937 to Lloyd and Enid Gordon in Ontonagon, MI.
She was raised in their family home on the Ontonagon River along with her older brothers. She graduated from the Ontonagon Area High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Robert James (Jim) Bailey on April 8th, 1956. Together they lovingly raised four children. They resided in Ontonagon for their entire lives.
Garnet was a caregiver with a kind soul who wasn´t afraid to use a little tough love every once in a while. She was also very stubborn at times and had a hard time being the one who needed the caregiving. Throughout her life she waited tables, tended bar, was an EMT and eventually retired from Maple Manor as a CNA after more than 25 years of service. She was always busy and wasn´t afraid to roll somebody over in bed so she could get the sheets washed and on the line on a beautiful summer day at home. She also enjoyed cooking and was known for her homemade chicken noodle soup, potato salad, pasties, chop suey and her Friday night shrimp fries. We will also never forgot the importance of a nice prime rib and Boston baked potatoes among too many side dishes to count for Christmas dinner.
Garnet enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, visiting with friends and having cook-outs on the patio or at the campground in the summer. Garnet loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. When her grandchildren were young she would use her entire vacation to take them camping at Courtney Lake. Courtney Lake had no power so she had to use a battery powered radio which was on the entire time; she loved having the radio playing in the background of her daily life for as long as we can all remember. She also organized many trips to Wisconsin Dells for the family and took many cruises to the Caribbean.
Garnet is preceded in death by her parents, son Danny, son-in-law Marsh Martinus, brothers; Edgar, Elden, Theron and Dale. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughters; Carrie (Eric) Erickson, Mary Cox, Leanne Martinus, and daughter-in-law Amy Sue Bailey. Her grandchildren Bailey Cox (Tim Laurich), Kelcie Cox, Brandon (Katie) Erickson, Marsh Martinus, Andrew Bailey, and Danielle Sue Bailey. Great-Grandchildren; Willow Plutchak, Isaac Erickson and lots of nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit who always enjoyed a good laugh.
A spring burial and celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
