George Haapala Obituary

George J. Haapala 98 of Bruce Crossing passed away September 13, 2021 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI.

He was born on June 2, 1923 in Paynesville, MI to the late Henry & Marie (Morti) Haapala.

George served his country During WW II in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he worked on the family farm and did body work on cars in the Bruce Crossing area. George played music with various groups and bands. He especial loved to play the violin & horn.

George was a great caretaker for his family. He assisted many of his family members in there elderly years. Near the end of George’s life, the roles were reversed with his niece Joan, taking care of him.

George is survived by his sister Eileen Huhta and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing. Military honors will be performed by the Ontoangon County Veteran’s Association.

The Cane Funeral Home-Bruce Crossing Chapel is assisting the family.
