Gerald F. "Jerry" Light, 78, of Ontonagon, passed away Wednesday evening, February 5, 2020.
He was born March 22, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan, son of the late Frederick and Dorothy(Gilson) Light. Jerry attended Alpena schools and graduated for the Alpena High School with the class of 1960. He also attended Alpena Community College, where he received a Liberal Arts Degree. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
On August 6, 1965 he was united in marriage to the former Leona B. Procter by the military chaplain Col. White in Aurora, Colorado.
Jerry was employed by the General Motors Corporation as a Health and Safety Representative. He and Leona visited the Upper Peninsula while traveling extensively throughout the United States. After being employed by GM for 31 years, they retired in 1998 and moved here. Jerry was a member/secretary of the Lake Superior Sportmans Club, Carp Lake Township board and on the Redeemer Free Lutheran Church council. He enjoyed country and gospel music and collected CDs.
He is survived by his wife Leona, a son Chad(Jennifer) Light, a daughter Sonia Light both of Ann Arbor. Mich. Also surviving are brothers and sisters; Floyd(Phyllis) Light of Charlevoix, Tom(Sandy)Light of Alpena, Joan(Jim) Fuller of St. Charles, Jean Allen and Trudy Hare both of Saginaw.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Harold, and brothers-in-law Terry Allen and Dave Hare.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 10, at 11am, at the Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Ontonagon with Pastor David Blake officiating. Jerry's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military rites will be accorded by the OCVA
