Gloria Hare Obituary

Gloria “Jean” Hare passed away peacefully with friends and family by her side. She fought a brave and determined fight against cancer for eight years, but on March 28, 2023 at the age of 79 she left us to be with her Lord, her parents and her beloved cat, Little Bea.

Jean lived in Ontonagon, Michigan for almost 50 years. She worked to help the children of Ontonagon and White Pine from 1978 until 2009 as a Head Start bus driver, a teacher’s aide and as a teacher while earning a Child Development Associate Certificate from Gogebic Community College.

She was a member of the Redeemer of the Free Lutheran Church where she often served as an enthusiastic greeter. She loved her favorite car, a Ford Mustang, and the police in the area got to know her because of her lead foot. Her iPad was usually in her lap with Facebook, solitaire and bingo tabs open and ready. Jean loved music and loved to dance to the many albums she amassed over the years. She also loved to collect vintage cookie cans, blue cobalt glassware, and tea pots. In fact, during the last several years, she used her knowledge of collectables while she worked at an antique store. Jean liked her black coffee, peanut butter Tasty Cakes, and filling the house with the aroma of homemade spaghetti sauce.

While Jean will be remembered for all of those things, it was the legacy of her five successful children that she was most proud of. She was always ready to brag about her kids and their accomplishments and always enjoyed visits and phone calls with them.

Gloria Jean Hare was born September 1, 1943 and was preceded in death by her father, Carl Rulli, her mother, Frances (Long) Rulli, and her two brothers, Joseph and Louis Rulli. Jean is survived by her brother Carmen Rulli with wife Dottie of Ontonagon, MI, and her sister Patricia Marks with husband Phillip of Pottstown, PA. She is also survived by her five children: her son Richard Hare of Plano, TX, and her daughters: Gina Page with husband Steve of Elton, WI, Andrea Eastman with husband Ryan of Summerfield, NC, Teresa McConoughey with wife Caitlin of Bridgeport, CT, Nella Wilson with husband Dan of Bloomington IL. Jean was also very proud of her surviving grandchildren Zachary Hare and Elle Eastman.

A visitation will be held at the Cane Funeral Home, Ontonagon, MI on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4pm – 7pm. The funeral will be held at the Redeemer Free Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 11 am, with a luncheon to follow in the church basement.

Interment will take place on Saturday, May 27th at 1pm at the Carp Lake Township Cemetery in Green, MI.

The entire family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Westgate Nursing and Rehabilitation and the Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care for their excellent care and devotion to our mom.
