James Meagher, age 58, died at home on June 2, 2022, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born November 6, 1963, in Ontonagon to Joseph and Beverly Meagher. He lived his entire life in the town that he loved. Jim graduated from the Ontonagon Area High School in 1982 after which he completed a program in waste water treatment at Northern Michigan University. He worked for the Ontonagon Village for 26 years. He loved plowing snow and his happiest times were behind the wheel of the grader.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and snowmobiling. He was fortunate to have had the love and companionship of two wonderful women. Pam Niemi and Jim had almost twenty years together until her death in 2018. He was lucky to find love again and spent the last years of his life with Connie Shatz. Although he did not have children of his own, Pam and Connie’s children and grandchildren became his family. He truly loved being a grandpa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph Meagher III, and Pam Niemi.
He is survived by Connie Schatz, sisters: Nancy (Gerald) Mattson, Ontonagon; JoAnne (John) Evans, Eau Claire WI; brothers: Robert (Sandy Mattson) Meagher, Turtle Lake WI; John (Wendy) Meagher, Stillwater MN and sister-in-law Joann Meagher, Neenah WI, along with many nieces and nephews and 26 grandchildren.
Per Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
