Jerry Arnold Hokkanen

Jerry Arnold Hokkanen of Greenland, Michigan passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

Jerry was born January 16th, 1938 to Arnold and Elsie (Aho) Hokkanen in Ontonagon Michigan. He married Marilyn Morse on April 12, 1958. Together, they raised 5 children, Jerilyn (David) Begalle, Jeff (Mary) Hokkanen, Jennifer Kurth Keller, Jay (Denise) Hokkanen and Joel (Katrina) Hokkanen.

Jerry grew up to be a jack of all trades, being famous for his ability to 'Jerry rig' anything, a skill he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an extremely hard worker having been employed at the White Pine Copper Mine for almost 30 years, Gitchee Gumee Oil after the closing of the mine, the Ontonagon shipyard, Pestka Construction and finishing off his career in New Hampshire managing D&R Transport Trucking and finally retiring from King Forest Industries.

After retirement he and Marilyn returned to the U.P. where Jerry enjoyed many years of fishing on the local lakes and streams and hunting with his buddies out of the "Poor Eye Hunt Club" camp.

Sadly, on March 5th, 2019 Jerry lost his loving wife of over 60 years, Marilyn.

He is survived by his 5 children, sister Susie Myllymaki, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Patricia Anttila and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland, MI Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 1 PM.

The Hokkanen family would like to acknowledge and again thank the wonderful staff at Ontonagon Aspirus Hospital and more recently the staff at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
