Juana “Josie” Shamion was taken home by our Lord on March 1st, 2020 in Ontonagon, MI. She passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family.
Josie was born on June 5th, 1937 and raised in San Antonio, Texas where she met her husband of 55 years, Ronald Shamion. She and Ron moved to Ontonagon in 1970 where his family lived. Throughout her life, Josie enjoyed fishing, dancing and cooking mexican food with Ron; she was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and spent time visiting family in Texas. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, playing cards with family and friends, many family trips and most recently spending time at her daughters’ homes visiting, shopping and eating out. No matter what she was doing at home or away, it was always with her family.
She enjoyed and spent most of her time with her family including her grandchildren - Ronald of North Carolina, Nicollette of Ontonagon, Ashley of Ironwood, Adam of Florida, Ryan of Ironwood, Zach of Ironwood, Crystal of Hurley, Kari and Kelly of Green Bay and their families. She also had thirteen great grandchildren who she adored, Ronald, Michael, Miley, McKenzie, Parker, Maeson, Wyatt, Isabella, Brantley, Whitney, Archer, Maggie and Harvey.
Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, she will be remembered with Love.
She is survived by her children, Christine (Carl) Brees of Ontonagon, Ronald Shamion Jr. of Minocqua WI and Stephanie (Terry) Hannu of Ironwood; also, sisters Guadelupe and Consuelo and brother Miguel; in-laws, Cathy (Wayne-deceased) Shamion, Robert (Sharon) Shamion, Kathy (Bob) Pattison, Danny (Connie) Shamion and numerous nieces and nephews.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Shamion, her parents, Juanita and George Aguilar, brother, George, sisters – Isabella, Olivia, Minerva, and Perfecta.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontonagon on Saturday, March 14th. Fellowship with family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. and service with Pastor Howard Neider officiating, will begin at 2 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club in Ontonagon immediately following the memorial service.
Memorials may be given to the Ontonagon County Cancer Association in Josie’s name. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who have provided such great care to our mother including Horizon Home Care staff, Upper Great Lakes Family Clinic staff, Aspirus Hospital and Hospice care staff.
