Kenneth M. Jones 79 passed away peacefully at his home in Ontonagon, MI on July 26, 2022 after a 2-month battle with pancreatic cancer. The family is especially grateful to Melissa Miles and Leah Tucker for their understanding and compassion on that dreadful night.
Ken was born in Milwaukee, WI on March 11, 1943 to Ernest (Grub) and Angie Jones. Shortly after his birth, the family returned to Ontonagon. After graduating high school, Ken went to work at the paper mill where a co-worker encouraged him to get a trade. He went to Detroit Diesel Training School in St. Louis, MO where he earned his certification. Ken then went to work for Lakeshore, Inc. in Negaunee, MI where he traveled the entire Upper Peninsula as a diesel mechanic. He later started his own diesel business, Ken’s Diesel Repair. He also worked for Mathy Construction of Wisconsin for many years. Ken later returned to Ontonagon to work at the paper mill for over 25 years.
He enjoyed fishing, working on his many boats and auto repair. He was most recently working on restoring a 1987 Ford pick-up truck. He also enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and going to casinos. Ken recently won the grand and major jackpots at the same time, which had never been done before at the casino in Baraga!
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Barbara (Picciano) Jones, 2 sons Kenneth A. (girlfriend Alissa) and Jesse M. Jones, Sr. of Baraga, 2 daughters Andrea (Rick) Triplett of Wilkesboro, NC and Kris (Mark) Meyer of Sheboygan, WI, several grandchildren Jesse M. Jones, Jr. and Analiese Jones of Baraga, Travis and Amanda Meyer of Sheboygan, WI, Michelle (Nathaniel) Staley and Jeremiah (Christina) Triplett of Wilkesboro, NC and 2 great-grandchildren Ava and Maggie.
He was preceded in death his parents, uncle James Zartner, aunt Ethel Zartner and cousin J.B. Zartner.
A memorial service will be held at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon on Saturday, August 20th at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral Home 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon. A luncheon will follow at VFW Post 5600 in Ontonagon,
