Linda R. Babka, 72, of Ontonagon, MI passed away on October 24, 2023 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital after a seven-month ordeal with Esophageal Cancer.
Linda was born in Pontiac, MI to Andrew and Margorie Babka on June 20, 1951. She graduated from high school at Durand Area High School in Durand, MI. Outside of high school, she worked at Aldermans IH dealership as a Parts & Farm Supplies salesperson. The local farmers were always happy to have Linda handle their parts needs.
With her training in an office occupation, she went into the insurance business. Commercial Insurance Underwriting became her career for over forty years. Guyot Hick Anderson & Associates, and Donegal Mutual Insurance co., just to name a couple.
Linda was involved with the Eagles Women Auxiliary in Ontonagon, from helping with pasty making to decorating the hall for upcoming events. She always enjoyed an evening of gathering with friends and dancing to Open Mic Night.
A baptized Baptist and later baptized Methodist, she had a strong spiritual connection with God. "We must practice being forgiving and continue to promote happiness as needed."
She loved animals of all kinds and had a special spot in her heart for her dog "Frosty", who was always waiting patiently for Linda to come home from a long day at work. Local neighbors who walked their dogs along the street always had to "stop at Linda's for a treat for their dogs." Some dogs pulled their owners to Linda's home. Good conversation was always enjoyed by all involved and although Linda may not have recalled the owner's name right away, she always knew the dog's name.
Her love of opening a creek to "watch the river flow" was the highlight of a summer's beach day activities which also included roasting hot dogs, great friends, and adult beverages, topped off with an inspiring sunset.
Her parents preceded her in death, along with her sister Joan Reid, and brother Donald Babka.
She is survived by her brother John (partner Mary), sisters Barbara (Jerry) Dunckel and Andrea Babka, brother-in-law John Reid and sister-in-law Sandee Babka; many nieces, nephews and friends abound. Her significant other John Harris of Ontonagon.
