Mary Ann Rogers, age 94, of Greenland passed away April 15, 2024, at Bayside Village in L'Anse Michigan with her family by her side, one week shy of her 95th birthday.
Mary Ann was born April 21, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Mass High School, Mass City, Michigan.
White in school she was employed at the Mass City Co-op Store, where she learned the Finnish language from the patrons. She later worked at Marttinen's Store in Mass City, was a cook at the Mass City School and later retired from the Ontonagon Area High School.
On December 20, 1947, she married Leon Rogers and together they had three daughters, Carolyn (Michael) Cisler, Marilyn (Dan) Rogers and Sandra (Corky) Rickland. also surviving are four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; sisters Betty (Andrew) Martin, Alice (Norman) Weisinger, Barbara Kemppainen, brother William (Dorothy) Johnson; sisters-in-law Marlene Johnson and Helen Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are parents Eino and Mary Johnson, husband Leon Rogers, brothers Ernest and Donald Johnson, sister Ellen Arvo, infant sister Berniece Johnson, brothers-in-law Donald Arvo and Ben Kemppainen.
Mary Ann was proud of her family, enjoyed hearing life stories and experiences from her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, camping, playing board and card games with family and friends where her competitiveness shined, and she sure loved watching her Detroit Tigers.
Visitation will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mass City on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00am and funeral services to follow at 12:00pm. Interment will follow after the service at Maple Grove Cemetery. Pastor Bill Jacobson will officiate the service.
