Mary Tahtinen Obituary

Mary Tahtinen was born in Ontonagon, Michigan, the daughter of Jalmer and Lily Laingren. After graduating from high school, she was employed by the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital as a dietician. She married her husband, Raymond, and shortly thereafter moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where she was employed by Pranges Department Store. After a few years, they moved to Tunkhannock, where they raised their two twin daughters. As her children got older, Mary was employed by the Tunkhannock Area School District and volunteered at Tyler Memorial Hospital. She also was a loyal supporter of children’s charities, including the Moose Lodge Children’s Charity.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond, and the two recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. She is also survived by her daughters, Terri (Ignatius) of Arizona and their two children, Jason and Brendan; Sherri (J.P.) of Massachusetts; her brother, Jalmer and sister, Hilda. She was pre-deceased by an infant son, Brian.

She loved spending time with friends and family and enjoyed her grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed trips to the casino and was an avid sports fan.

Services were held Friday April 28th at 10am from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, with Pastor John Shaffer officiating. A viewing was held Thursday at the funeral home from 5-7pm. Interment was at the Sunnyside Cemetery.
