Raymond G. Smith, 84, of White Pine, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at his home. He was born October 6, 1937 in Tri Mountain, MI, son of the late Gervase and Mercedes (Michelle) Smith.
Raymond attended Tri Mountain and Ontonagon schools. He graduated from Ontonagon High School with the class of 1953. He also attended the University of Wisconsin - Stout. From 1961 through 1963 he served in the US Army in Fort Richardson, AK, where he was a ski instructor to the troops.
Raymond was employed locally at the White Pine Copper Mine as an electrical clerk for 41 years, until retirement.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, ski instructor and Ski Patrol member at the Porkies and the Alyeska Mountain in Alaska, and a volunteer fireman for the Carp Lake Fire Department.
Raymond is survived by two sons: Allen Smith and Todd (Theresa) Smith of White Pine: Grandchildren, Ashley Smith of Tampa FL, Shane Smith of Tempe, AZ, and Beau (Elizabeth) Smith of Green River WY; great grandchildren: Annabelle, Ellenor and Zoe.
Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by a grandson Nathan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 3, 2022 in White Pine at St. Jude's Catholic Church at 11:00am, with Father Jacobus officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am. The burial will take place following the service at Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon. Military rites will be accorded by the OCVA at graveside.
