Robert Funke Obituary

Robert Paul Funke, 88, of Ontonagon, Mi passed away on February 4th, 2022.

He was born in Baraga, Mi in 1933 to Robert E. and Myrtle Agnes (Broemer) Funke. He was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. He graduated from Baraga High School in 1951 and served in the National Guard. He worked for the Village of Baraga until moving to the Ontonagon area. He worked for the White Pine Mine for 25 years and later went into trucking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen, sons John Paul, Robert, Fritz and step-children John Strancel Jr, Mary Lynn Strancel, grandson Jeremy Funke and daughters in law Beverly and Tina Funke.

He is survived by his wife Lois, children Gladys Funke, Mary (Don) Majurin, Gaylord Funke, Peter (Kim) Funke, Larry (Lori) Funke, Dan (Paula) Funke and daughter in law Florina Funke. Step children JoAnn (Jeff) Hickey, Beth Fors, Donna (Reese) Roberts and Tammy (John) Strasser.  Brothers Albert, Bernard, Donald and Bill Funke. 16 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren and an 8th due in March.

A graveside ceremony will be held in Bergland, Mi in the Spring.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their excellent care.
