Roy Miilu Obituary

Roy Claude Miilu of Mass City passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at The Omega House in Houghton Michigan.

Roy was born in Mass City to Michael and Irene Miilu on January 10, 1945. He was the 2nd youngest of 13 children and attended school in Mass City. He married Gail (Cis) Wilber on April 15, 1972 in Rockland. He worked as a union carpenter for years that took him to many locations until his retirement in 2007. His most enjoyable project was the Rock Harbor Lodge on Isle Royale.

He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the United States Army. It was quite a site to see him with his tools, fishing gear and a smile. Roy was the quintessential Yooper who was most comfortable spending time outdoors fishing and hunting with family and friends, spending time at camp and riding in the country whether it was by car, ATV or snowmobile. Locally, Roy was an active member of the VFW Post 4167 in East Branch and the Superior Snowmobile Club.

Roy is survived by his wife, Gail; his children Peter (Renee) of Portage, Kevin of Kincheloe and Susie of Rockland; his three grandchildren Grace, Rachel and Kevin II. Brothers Donald, Howard and Eino; sisters Lillian and Myrtle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Irene; brothers Michael, Carl and Norman; sisters Helen, June, Ann and Dorothy.

A graveside service will be held at the Rousseau Cemetery on June 12, 2021 at 1pm in Rousseau.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Omega House for their care and compassion.
