Ruth E. Arkelin

Ruth E. Arkelin passed away on August 8, 2022 at Trillium Hospice House in Marquette, Michigan. She had been a resident there since July 29, 2022.

Ruth was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed "Butch" Olson. She was born on the top of Quincy Hill in Sing Sing Location, Hancock, Michigan on March 22, 1927. She was the last of her immediate family to pass. Ruth was 95.

Ruth graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1945, the eight in her class. She worked in a lawyer's office while still in high school. She later worked at Ben Franklin Store and Wagar's Wearing Apparel, both in Ontonagon.

Ruth met and married Rudy Arkelin. She had four children: Sandra, John (passed at birth), Claire, and Kevin (Janet). She also has two grandchildren: Andrew (Leah) Arkelin and Hannah (Ryan) Fortune. Ruth was happy to have been able to meet her two great grandchildren: Isla Arkelin and Oliver Fortune.

Ruth and Rudy loved looking for old bottles and copper and stone hammers. She loved going to the casino and traveling with Rudy throughout the United States.

After Rudy passed, Ruth lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin and then Marquette, Michigan. While in Green Bay and Marquette, she enjoyed going for rides to explore the countryside and trying new restaurants.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00am with Alan Ashley officiating at the Riverside Cemetery, Ontonagon, Michigan.
