Sally M. (Parent) Spitz, 90, of Canal View-Houghton County MCF in Hancock, and formerly of Greenland, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021.
Sally was born in Ontonagon on October 7, 1930 to the late Theodore and Viola Parent. She attended the Ontonagon schools and graduated with the class of 1949. Sally married Willard Spitz on July 30, 1949 and they made their home in Rockland where they raised their two daughters.
Sally was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar Society for many years before moving to Appleton, WI for a few years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 92 of Rockland.
Sally enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and working crossword puzzles. She was a very accomplished cook even though she had no formal training in cooking. Sally worked at the original Candlelight Club as a waitress and later a bartender where she made the best drinks. Later she worked as the bar and pro shop manager at the Ontonagon Golf Club until her retirement.
Sally is survived by her two daughters; Linda (Jim) Bender of Medford, OR and Carol (Joe) Brown of Greenland. Three grandchildren; Jeff (Michelle) Bender of Medford, OR, Kristi (Scott) Johnson of Houghton, MI and Emily Shardlow of Rockland, MI; six great grandchildren, Danielle (Dustin and Brandon), Trista, Ella, Alex, Colin and Evan and several nieces and nephews
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Willard, her parents, and four siblings. Helen "Toots" (Bob) Joki, Delores "Dotty" (Ted) Szafranski, Ted (Linnea) Parent and baby Francis.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on October 7 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland with visitation one hour prior from 10:00am to 11:00am, with a graveside service to follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Rockland Community Center,
