Thomas John Zimmerman

Tom was born on January 12, 1931 in Youngstown, Ohio to Thomas Zimmerman and Matilda Sophie Zimmerman.

After graduating from high school, Tom served his country as a medic in the Navy.

Starting another chapter in his life, Tom moved to Anchorage, Alaska. While in Alaska, Tom met the love of his life, Anita, and they were married in 1986. A few short years after they were married however, Anita was stricken by a progressive physical disease. Tom lovingly and patiently, without complaint, cared for her the rest of their lives.

Anita and Tom loved traveling, especially cruises. Over the years they traveled to many countries (often the South Pacific) and eventually fell in love with Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they made their home for over 20 years.

Although family and friends managed to visit them often, they still had room in their lives to “adopt” a local Mexican family, and became honorary family members as the children grew, finished school, married and had kids of their own. During these years Tom and Anita contributed in anyway they could, no differently than with their families here in the States. All holidays and birthdays were celebrated with their Mexican family.

Tom is predeceased by his son Thomas (Tuppy) Zimmerman. In addition Tom is survived by his beloved siblings, Anita (George) Puskar and Dave (Vivian) Zimmerman, and his 4 cherished nephews, Dr. George Puskar (Melissa), Jeffery Puskar (Dr. Marc Rashid), Christopher Puskar (Jodie), and Thomas Puskar (Krisztina)

Thomas John Zimmerman blessed this world by his life and his presence and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held for both Tom and his late wife Anita on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, Michigan at 3:00pm.
