Obituary

William “Bill” Raymond Schober passed away peacefully at his home on Monday June 26th.
Bill was born in Duluth Minnesota on May 31, 1930 to William Sylvester and Helen Virginia (Novachek) Schober. He attended local schools in Ontonagon and graduated with the class of 1948. 

He then worked for his dad at the Central Garage which sold Plymouth and Chryslers until January 1951.  Bill then joined the Army and trained at Camp McCoy Wisconsin with Battery B 887th FA Bn for 6 months.  He then went overseas to Germany and was stationed there until January 1954. When returning home Bill worked for his dad again at the Central Garage until 1962 when he went to the paper mill.

In June 1954, Bill married Donna Hoefferle.  Bill and Donna made their home in Ontonagon and raised 6 children - William Randall “Randy”, Susan (Penegor), Jerome “Jerry”, Heidi (Raisanen), Lisa (Lindberg) & David. In 1992, Bill retired as a millwright from the paper mill after 30 years of service.

Bill was a member of the KofC, Eagles, a life member of the VFW & was a DAV service officer. He enjoyed gardening, spending time at camp, and time with his family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Bill & Helen, wife Donna, sister Jeannette Weis, children Randy, Susan, Jerry & Heidi. 

He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Cliff) Lindberg, son David (Sarah), sons in law Bruce Penegor and Bob Raisanen, daughter in law Angi Schober, 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Services for Bill will be held on Saturday July 22nd, 2023 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon with visitation from 10-11, service at 11 and military honors to follow at the Holy Family cemetery.  A luncheon will be at the Eagles club afterwards.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontonagon Cancer Association.
