Helen was cousin and childhood best friend of my mother Helmi Wayrynen Loosemore. They grew up together as next door neighbors in South Range. My mother is now 93 and an Alzheimers patient at Bayside nursing home in L'Anse, MI. We had last seen "Gussie" (as mom affectionately called her) at Bayside where she was recovering from surgery and receiving therapy in late December. My husband and I live in lower Michigan and came to visit my mom and my dad, who is also 93 and lives in Skanee. We just found out the sad news today when a staff member at Bayside mentioned it to us. Gussie was always a true and caring friend to mom and had driven several times from Ontonagon just to visit mom at Bayside. We send our sympathy to Lulu and family.

It was a great honor to share these latter years with mama Sankie. What a wonderful, stoic, Finnish woman who was loved and respected by all. That she loved me like a son I have no doubt...I'll miss her dearly and remember her always.

Someone once told me if you were in the hospital, no matter how sick you were, if Sankie walked in the room, she was like a ray of sunshine........Rest in Peace Sankie.

Sankie was my supervisor as I took on a position after graduating from Nursing School. I always have said that the experience I had at LaCroix Hospital in White Pine was the best a new RN cold receive. Sankie was so supportive and encouraging. I always remembered her as I persued many other areas of nursing interest during my career. Good Bless Sankie as she has made a significant mark as an R.N. wherever she worked. Mary Pulkas

As a young nurse Sankie taught me so much about OB and nursing in general. She always made working a bit lighter with her humor. Oh the stories she could tell! RIP Sankie. You will be missed.

Lulu and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Sankie's passing. I've been thinking of her so much lately....She was such a great lady. We always enjoyed being with her. I was lucky enough to work with her at OMH, and also visited with her often when she used to help at Riverview Senior Center and Adult Day Center. She will be missed!
